Psychotherapy and Counseling Services Overview

Psychotherapy and Counseling

Psychotherapy is a clinical practice to treat people who are experiencing poor or unstable moods, hurt feelings, uncomfortable thoughts, or struggling to manage their behaviors. Psychotherapy helps make implicit or internal processes become more explicit. By talking about it with a healthcare professional, it becomes easier and safer to process what is troubling you, create concrete solutions or resolve conflicts that may have seen too hard to resolve before.

During this process, many people learn more about themselves through the process of exploration. You will also receive education on how the mind works, learning more about your condition, and what you can do about it. Coping is a term frequently used to describe both positive and negative behaviors. Many negative coping skills can reduce your overall health. By being open and honest about your experiences, you can find new and positive coping skills to take control of your life and manage challenging situations in a constructive way.

We have many different providers, each with an arsenal of different types of therapy. They will tailor their approach based on your needs to find the best fit. Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication or other therapies. This is why we offer so many services in parallel to each other, to make your treatment as effective as possible and get you to find your best self.

Therapy is most often conducted in an individual setting where you can talk to your provider one on one. Based on your situation, it can also include your family, couples counseling, or a group setting, and can help both children and adults. Both patient and therapist need to be actively involved in psychotherapy. The trust and relationship between a person and his/her therapist is essential to working together effectively and benefiting from psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy can be short-term (a few sessions), dealing with immediate issues, or long-term (months or years), dealing with longstanding and complex issues. The goals of treatment and arrangements for how often and how long to meet are planned jointly by the patient and therapist.

Evidence-Based Psychotherapy

Evidence-Based Therapy (EBT), also known as Evidence-based practice (EBP), are clinical treatments that have been proven effective using research rather than solely depending on theories. It is characterized by approaches that are restricted to techniques that are based on scientific evidence. The American Psychiatric Association considers these as the “best practices” and “preferred” methods of psychological symptoms.

Many current and mainstream psychotherapies fit into this definition. What is important to note is that as a clinic, we strive to provide the best treatment and care we can for each patient. That is why every treatment plan is developed with a case-by-case analysis by the provider and treatment team. We look at the symptoms, the available treatment options together as a team then present the treatment options to the patients in a collaborative system to improve the level of care and patient comfort in the direction of treatment. Using EBT with sensitivity to the preferences of the patients allows the treatment to reach its maximum efficiency. This is how EBTs are made to be used, as is how they were researched.

In addition to EBT, clients are given options to use our other treatment services at the same time, if needed. Research has shown that some conditions are best treated with both psychotherapy and medication, tms, or other treatment methods. Please ask our healthcare professionals if you have any questions about EBT and our other services to find out what is right for you
